2022: Hang Gliding Year in Review

I figure I'd take a crack at some sort of Top 10 list for a Hang Gliding Year-in-Review...maybe a mix of a retrospective on 2022 and what to look forward to in 2023! WillsWing seems to be the talk of the industry this year.  Everyone is waiting with baited-breath to see them get back into the groove down in Mexico.  Their production times seem to be really reasonable and they are making some really nice looking gliders.  WillsWing has historically focused on the entry level gliders and worked to develop on up to the higher performing gliders - and that seems...

Updates to our Selfie Camera Booms!

We have now been making these unique selfie sticks for about 11 years now!  We started making them for our own use as we wanted a stable camera boom to attach to our tandem glider to capture our customers' experience the best we possibly could. Our images caught on so we made specific basetube mounts for most hang glider manufacturers' basetubes - round or airfoil.  Since then, we have sent out over 200 camera booms all over the World! Here is a cool example of a recent image captured out in BC Canada These new 360-cameras (Insta360 or GoPro) take...

Attaching a 2-stage release

We swear by the "Koch-style" 2-stage releases for foot-launching while stationary winch towing.  They are the most reliable release out there.  Too bad they aren't readily available....something we hope to tackle one of these days. They are tough to attach to most harnesses though - and that is the key to getting a comfortable tow out of them...most harnesses just aren't rigged with 'proper' tow loops.  And foot-launch towing with other releases off of the other tow loops on standard harnesses aren't ideal either.  When we started scooter tow training (circa 2010) we weren't happy with using the stock aerotow...

Review: Charly DiamondCross Delta reserve parachute

Review: Charly DiamondCross Delta reserve parachute

The three main parachute brands I am used to all seem to be gone, going or will be a while til we see them again!  Moyes Conars need to get re-certified due to bridles they were using were discontinued (and this doesn't seem to be high on their priorities).  High Energy Quantums were sold off to another parachute company when their harness business was sold to Pilot Induced Operations - they are planning on bringing them back (maybe later 2022).  WillsWings FFE LARA chutes are sporadically available due to WillsWings move to Mexico.  So time to explore other options!  This is...

Choosing a Hang Glider. And when to upgrade.

Here at Instinct Windsports, we are fortunate enough to be dealers for multiple brands of gliders.  It allows us to recommend, fly, service and sell a wide variety of gliders to help our local pilots make informed decisions on the options out there rather than pushing one brand of glider on them.  Between our instructors, we have the skill, experience (and varied weights) to fly every and all models and size gliders we sell.  We pride ourselves in being very active pilots on all levels of wings. I really don't like hearing pilots argue about what brand is the best.  All...
