Collection: THE Vortex SmartWinch

The Ultimate in Stationary/Static Winches - and all electric!

We are proud to be fabricating the first commercially-available all-ELECTRIC hang gliding stationary winch!  We feel it will be quite revolutionary in the industry.  The power, the portability, the intelligence and the price are all there.

What is a vortex?

"Sedona vortices are thought to be swirling centers of energy that are conducive to healing, meditation and self-exploration. These are places where the earth seems especially alive with energy.  Many people feel inspired, recharged or uplifted after visiting a Vortex.  "

Vortex - once you read the above, I am sure you will agree it is a fitting name for this product!!

The key feature is the computer-controlled torque-regulated abilities....you just dial in the desired max tow tension and the winch moderates the speed the drum turns to automatically adjust to give the pilot a constant tow pressure.  Regardless of pilot hitting a wind gust, thermals or sink while on tow, the Vortex responds in milliseconds to adjust the rpm's of the winch to deliver a constant tension on the line.  It is actually creepy how smooth a tow is even compared to the best hydraulic winches in the world today.

We were the first to implement this tension-regulation in the electric winch industry.  We know there were a pair of PG electric winch makers but we beat them to the punch with it having auto-tension-regulation - as of 2023, I think they clued into it.

And the components of the Vortex are all small, light-weight and assemble with no tools.  All models can fit in the truck of a small SUV and simply mount to a standard trailer hitch.  The heaviest component is under 120lbs (the vx15 drum) which can be done solo but is best mounted on the hitch with a buddy.  For this reason, we can ship them world-wide for a reasonable cost...you can't do that with a custom hydraulic winch!

Mechanical Level Wind System

No other electric winch has it! It is the only reliable way of ensuring your rope gets stacked on tight with no loose wraps everytime.

The wider the drum gets (ie on the bigger models) it gets impossible to get the rope reliably wound on tight naturally (a boom/ladder fairlead).  If you are using the winch as a payout winch, step-towing or just wanted to minimize the wear on your rope - this level-wind is a game changer!

Currently comes standard on the vx15 & vx11 models. The vx4's drum is narrow and comes with a ladder fairlead.

Portable!

"Mountain-in-a-box"

It is also incredibly portable!  There are three components - the motor/drum, the controller box and the battery.  All are light enough that they can be taken in and out of an SUV trunk and mounted on your trailer hitch as desired.  No storing an entire trailer somewhere - take your winch home and go out to fly where the conditions are prime - rather than relying on a dedicated club site.

You leave such little footprint, getting temporary access to an airstrip, tow road or farm field has been easier than ever for us.

We are currently making small production runs and are ready to take orders - we even have a small inventory available (as of fall 2024).  Inventory is very limited.  Those that pay a deposit get theirs first.

Visit us in Toronto, Canada for training.  We also have online training classes that we require all Vortex owners to take and encourage them to require their pilots to take to make sure we are all on the same page and empower the pilots on the towline to be responsible for their own safety.  See below for the courses.

Prices are online now (see below) & ready for purchase - configurations may change and evolve and as we add features and improve some components, the prices will only go up from what we have listed now.

We now have THREE models!  Choose a model below and compare with the other models for a side-by-side comparison of the models.
